Scusi?… Behind the name

CASAGIOVE // kah-sa-JO-vay //… Sure, it’s fun to say, but why did we choose it for the name of our market?

Casagiove Pronunciation

We first thought of CASAGIOVE because Zia Ninuccia, the inspiration for the market, lived and ran her market in the city of Casagiove, Italy which is located in the region of Campania.

The first part of the name, CASA, is the Italian word for home and a big part of what we are all about. We want our customers to feel at home. We want to know your names and your favorites. We want to make you feel special. We want to encourage you to use the products you buy at CASAGIOVE to love on your families in your homes.

Later, we found out that it literally means “Jove’s house” based on the fact that the Greeks settled in the area and had a temple dedicated to their god Zeus. Jove (the Roman name for Zeus) was believed to be the source of joy and happiness, and where the term “jovial” comes from.

So, roughly… a “happy home”…

Add the fact that both Dana Point and Casagiove are small towns near the beach with delightful climates, and we couldn’t ignore that CASAGIOVE was the perfect name for our market!

Shopping for and preparing meals with family in Italy was a beautiful experience— one that I dreamed about sharing with my community in Dana Point, California. CASAGIOVE, recipes & notes, is the expression of that dream and I'm so happy to share it with you!
